Job Summary

The TV Network as part of a respected media conglomerate is seeking a dynamic DIGITAL Maghreb News leader who has strong editorial management skills to expand its social media footprint in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya & Mauritania.

The Global Media Organization is a U.S. non-profit, multimedia broadcaster that provides news and information and engages with audiences in the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio and digital properties.  This Maghreb Region  Managing Editor will work with fellow talented media executives in our executive offices, broadcast studios and headquarters in the U.S. in the Washington, DC Metro area.

The Organization is looking for a Maghreb Managing Editor to direct all content and operations of a new online platform designed to provide information and directly engage the target audience on a wide spectrum of political, social, and cultural issues.  The Maghreb Managing Editor will lead a team of Assignment Editors, Reporters, Community Managers and other staff in the U.S. and throughout the Maghreb to create a new on-line presence designed to provide Maghreb news and information and engage the target audience. The primary duties and responsibilities of the Maghreb Region Managing Editor include, but are not limited to the duties listed below in this job description.

Duties

• Overseeing the creation and implementation of a brand new TV Network Digital platform devoted to the Maghreb
• Leading Assignment Editors and entire new teams in the development of high quality, relevant content to spur audience engagement and real-time community discussions about and within the Maghreb
• Ensuring fresh, mission-driven content is produced and available on a timely basis.
• Ensuring all platform content complies fully with journalistic code, social media policies, and style guidelines
• Inform leadership of all current and emerging issues related to the new digital property
• Collaborate closely with technical staff to ensure effective content presentation
• Consistently providing sound editorial judgment, professional accountability and integrity
• Demonstrate initiative and creative thinking to develop new story forms, editorial campaigns and alternative approaches to improve mission delivery in the Maghreb.
• Take initiative to identify strengths and weaknesses in the Maghreb editorial team; recommending and implementing plans for training where appropriate
• Fostering communication and cooperation within team and across the Digital department
• Ensuring establishment and maintenance of a professional, positive, accountable work environment

Required

• At least a B.A., preferably in journalism or related field
• 7+ years of professional experience in news writing and editing, video journalism or related field- experience with social media platforms within a professional media company or news organization a plus
• Strong news judgment, management, leadership  and organizational skills
• Mastery of Arabic and fluency in English - fluency in French a plus
• Competency in modern journalism tools including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Google, YouTube.
• Demonstrated understanding of Middle East current events, especially in the Maghreb region and familiarity with international developments in and around Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya & Mauritania
• Ability to thrive under deadline pressures in a upbeat and exciting 24/7 TV and Digital broadcast environment
