Position Director Arabic TV Programming Acquisitions & Production
Location Washington, DC - USA
Compensation to $150,000 USD w/ complete coverage for you and your family.  Relocation provided to The United States if desired. Additional benefits discussed with qualified candidates.
Functions
  • Responsible for program acquisition activities including identifying, evaluating, sourcing, negotiating and acquiring all third-party programs for the Network in accordance with the Network’s  programming and corporate mission. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with established and emerging content providers; adheres to acquisition budgets. 
  • Continually evaluates performance of acquired programs against programming goals. 
  • Responsible for overseeing the 24-hour scheduling of all  broadcast networks including development and distribution of schedule; develops program schedules based upon data and consideration of available inventory. 
  • Continually evaluates scheduling developments in the industry and adjusts schedules and recommendations as appropriate to maintain competitive advantage and market share. 
  • May also develop and supervise co-productions or other original programming.  
  • Duties
    • Develop a master programming plan that fully reflects The Network’s mission and an understanding of the Middle East and regional media. 
    • Lead grid management and coordination, including quarterly reviews and planning forums, and establishing related standard operating procedures and internal policies.
    • Direct and manage personnel responsible for program evaluations, acquisitions for program planning and scheduling for the Networks. 
    • Coordinate daily with all relevant Departments to effectively implement and maintain a cohesive programming strategy (including News, Promotions, Graphics); managing competing demands to resolve programming conflicts. 
    • Oversee program acquisition to ensure mission and strategic relevance, and negotiate all acquisitions with third party vendors in accordance with legal and budgetary guidelines.
    • Monitor research results and provide input for fielded research to inform programming decisions and strategy. 
    • Identify strengths and weaknesses in programming and make recommendations to top management to strengthen the Network’s market position. 
    Experience
    • College degree 
    • 5 to 10+ years experience in broadcasting with a concentration in programming/grid management.  Exposure to international broadcasting preferred. 
    • Sound editorial and creative judgment. 
    • Knowledge of Middle Eastern cultural and lifestyle with keen awareness of regional sensitivities and sensibilities. 
    • Strong project management skills with ability to multi-task in a fast paced and changing environment. 
    • Strong communications skills and relationships with all levels of the organization; ability to develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with third party vendors and co-production partners. 
    • Track record negotiating programming deals in the best interest of the company. 
    • Demonstrated ability to manage a creative staff. 
    • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic would be a plus.

    • Monitor development and production including setting milestones, tracking budgets and deliverables.

    Responsibilities
  • Creatively plan and schedule movie channels utilizing audience ratings and competitive trend information.
  • Manage and develop a team of schedulers.
  • Oversee creative aspects of planning and scheduling while implementing long term planning of all inventory.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of monthly reporting tools.
  • Interface with finance on inventory utility and amortization and interface with legal on contract points.
  • Screen all titles to know content, write creative documents for distribution to marketing, PR and production departments.
  • Document creative evaluation based on screenings to create monthly promotional packages.
  • Contribute to the development and communication of channel models and guidelines.
  • Communicate programming strategy to promotion group.
  • Manage creative contributions to marketing guides and other monthly publications.
  • Skills Required
  • Nielsen experience with an understanding of ratings and audience trends (over-nights)
  • Extensive Movie knowledge and an enthusiasm for Motion Pictures
  • Management experience supervising employee(s) in a broadcast environment
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of scheduling of programming experience.
