A highly respected, stable and lifelong secure non-profit broadcaster and media conglomerate is seeking a talented broadcasting executive who is seeking a real home.  This broadcast engineering job is for a Chief or Senior Broadcast Engineer who desires long-term stability and career security in an ideal work environment.

This respected Broadcast Network is migrating to advanced technologies as they integrate their TV, MSO, OTT, On Line, Print and Social Media properties.  This Broadcast Engineering professional will lead, mentor and spearhead projects in a hands-on manner, working with kind, dedicated and caring broadcast professionals who also enjoy career stability and security in a highly desired work environment.

This Chief Engineer will be responsible for providing outstanding client and customer service to multiple broadcast studios, master control, transmission, post-production, creative content creation and edit facilities. 

This person should truly enjoy technology and have the ability to bring new technologies to fruition and improve workflow.  This position reports to a seasoned TV Network executive who has a reputation of being a “great boss”.

Responsibilities

  • In a hands-on manner participate in day-to-day execution of preventive maintenance, facility personnel assignment, equipment calibration and technical support
  • Provide high-level customer support and service to News, Digital, Production and Master Control departments.
  • Resolve issues through careful analysis and trouble shooting, fabricating, cabling and wiring new installations with proper labeling and or documentation as directed by the Director of Engineering.
  • Participate in developing project priorities, resource requirements, project scope and objectives.
  • Assess issues / needs and provide enhancements to existing systems.  Analyze systems and or workflow to identify issues, improvements and solutions.
  • Maintain a high level of broadcast industry technical and business knowledge to keep the broadcast infrastructure up to industry standards.
  • Work closely with broadcast operations to keep them informed trough documentation of changes to the production environment.
  • Maintain, track and report all project status and metrics 
Requirements
  • Engineering or related degree
  • A minimum of (7) seven years of experience providing:
    • Studio
    • Master Control
    • Non-Linear Editing
    • Server and Transmission Technical Support
  • AutoCAD or Visio drawing and document skills preferred 
  • Full cabling, wiring, equipment configuration, installation, systems integration and project management experience desired
  • A history of providing quality support to editors and production
  • A working knowledge of networking technologies, topographies and troubleshooting used in broadcasting, highly desired
  • In depth knowledge of ADC 100, ROSS Overdrive, studio camera setup, MPEG compression, satellite communication required
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to lift 50 pounds and climb a ladder
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends as required

Summary Jobs for TV Chief Broadcasting Engineers in TV Network News in New York and Westchester NYThe Chief Broadcast Engineering will be responsible for daily “hands on” support of the technical infrastructure and team for 24/7/365 live News and production facility. This highly technical staff position requires an experienced individual with multi-channel master control, live studio production, editing and digital workflow skills. Ability to communicate under complex and stressful conditions to all levels is key to the success. In-depth knowledge of broadcast automation systems, ENPS newsroom rundown systems as well as core distribution technologies is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage, schedule, train, mentor, team of 10+ broadcast engineers/technicians
  • Monitor, supervise, and improve the daily production control processes within the Broadcast Operations Unit with a focus on Technical Systems, Master Control, and Live Events
  • In-depth knowledge of satellite, OTA, fiber, and IP transmission systems
  • Generate engineering schematics, design documentation, and SOP’s for all technical systems
  • Consults with Engineering and Senior level management to conceptualize new systems and integrate new technologies/systems into existing operation
  • Maintain monthly broadcast calendar, schedules, weekly call sheets, and daily exceptions (sick call etc.), including vacation scheduling, special events, cross-coverage and cross training
  • Recruit, hire and train new employees, manage and develop operations and production staff
  • Solid understanding of IP networking and advanced computer skills (Windows, Mac)
  • Facilitate communication between the technical team, news desk and production staff
  • Understanding of IPTV, MATV, and OTT a plus
  • Organized project management and communication skills
  • Frequently liaison with Executives
  • Skills Required
  • Strong troubleshooting, working and technical understanding of digital broadcast technology, digital signal types, media formats and compression, sync, time code and signal flow.
  • Operational as well as technical knowledge of production control technology including Ross Carbonite switchers, Yamaha digital audio consoles, Imagine Communications Farad SAN / Nexio video servers, studio equipment, Evertz EQX Router, RTS, Crispin automation, etc. required.  Experience with ENPS or other NRCS systems highly desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of MPEG encoding technology and head-end/NOC distribution required. Familiarity with traditional terrestrial and satellite broadcast technology is helpful.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and maintaining broadcast automation systems.  Advanced knowledge of serial, GPIO, and IP control methodologies.
  • In-depth understanding supporting LAN/WAN infrastructure, routing, switching, VLANs, etc
  • Ability to analyze and interpret various system logs to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical broadcast issues.  Prior programming experience a plus
  • Ability to create, read and follow blueprints and system schematics as well as frequently produce workflow documents, signal flow schematics and Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • At least 2 years of extensive experience with MS Visio and/or AutoCAD required.

  • Ability to manage people and effectively delegate tasks.
    Multi-tasking and on-the-fly prioritization skills are essential. Must frequently complete time-critical assigned tasks under stressful situations with minimal or no supervision.

  • Consult and collaborate with the help desk team, which you will be part of to provide efficient technical issue resolution, where necessary escalating issues to other internal teams in accordance with the escalation process. 
  • Responsible for tracking, communication and resolution of engineering support issues in the Support Ticketing System.
  • Follow internal procedures to document technical environments, procedures and good practice protocols for our customers, updating documentation to reflect any changes. 
  • Provide support to the team deploying on-site customer solutions, demo / trial setup, operation and product testing. 
  • Update software / hardware assets on client database and tracking systems.

    Job Description
  • The Director of Facilities Operations is responsible for the mechanical and electrical systems in a 24/7 broadcast television facility.
  • The technical and non-technical space is over one million square feet.
  • The electrical plant includes three 2 MW generators enabling the facility to go off grid during periods of peak demand.
  • There are four large UPS’s in the facility.
  • The Director manages all preventative maintenance of the HVAC and electrical systems using both contractors and internal resources.
  • The Director supervises the daily work of the IBEW Local 3 electric shop and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30 engineers.
  • Other responsibilities include providing input to the Facilities Design and Construction Department in the design of capital improvements.
  • Required
  • Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering
  • A PE is preferred (but not required)
  • At least 7-10 years experience in a 24/7 technical facility with progressively greater management responsibilities is required.

    Summary The Staff Engineer is a member of the Network Technology Group (NTG).

    • Candidates should have a basic knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems and how these systems interact with the technical equipment.
    • Computer literacy, excellent oral and written communication abilities and close attention to details are required. 
    • Satellite transmission systems experience is desirable.
    • A BS or BA degree is desirable.
    • Must be authorized to work and reside in the United States.

    Position Broadcast Engineering Technicians and Directors - No More Resumes Please - FILLED
    Location East and West Coast
    Summary These are hands-on positions to maintain technical integrity of the NOC’s base band video/audio and RF infrastructures.
    Responsibilities
    • Install, repair & maintain audio, video, RF, and server based broadcast systems
    • Ability to repair analog or digital equipment down to the component level
    • Thorough knowledge on maintaining, repairing and trouble shooting various video servers (Grass Valley Profile,) 
    • Thorough knowledge on maintaining, repairing and trouble shooting various archives in LAN/WAN/SAN configurations in the cloud.
    • Thorough knowledge of Automation – configuration, installation, trouble shooting and operation of Device Servers, Air Clients, File Servers, etc.
    • Ability to maintain and repair HPA’s, antennas, waveguide, exciters and other RF satellite transmission, signal distribution and signal evaluation equipment.
    • Maintain and repair character generators, still stores, logomotions, frame synchronizers, distribution amplifiers, patch bays and other broadcast infrastructure equipment
    • Maintain Motorola encryption equipment
    • Provide on-call support 24 hours per day, 365 per year. Support may entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to UPS/LIPA failures, storms or severe weather, and loss of personnel.
    • Ability to use spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, waveform/vector scopes and other test equipment
    • Ability to setup, coordinate, patch and monitor LIVE events
    • Assist and take phone calls from affiliates in order to resolve problems
    • Ability to work independently on assignments and report back on progress
    • Ability to develop and implement proactive procedures
    • Work with Technical Operations managers and Supervisors on training and development of technicians; develop SOPs to aid technicians
    • Maintain database or reports on preventative maintenance assignments
    • Hands-on installation or fabrication of materials for new or modification projects
    • Ability to install cabling and equipment, interpret wiring diagrams and drawings used in the design of new installations
    • Testing and certification of new installations or modifications
    • Interface with On Air staff regarding daily needs
    • Attend various departmental and crew staff meetings
    • Training of operational staff on equipment and/or configurations
    Skills Required
    • BS Electrical Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent required
    • 7+ years experience in broadcast television, cable TV broadcaster or MSO
    • Prior experience working in a high pressured environment delivering consistency with mission critical assignments
    • Sony maintenance training certification
    • Harris Automation training certification a plus
    • Motorola Digicypher training certification a plus
    • Knowledge of Windows and UNIX environments plus
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel and Word applications, AutoCAD a plus
    • Comprehensive industry knowledge of analog and digital audio technology, satellite RF technology and distribution methods, data networks, servers, archive, distribution systems, analog and SMPTE standards
    • Ability to change priorities and handle last minute changes
    • SBE certification or FCC license recommended
    • Affiliation with SMPTE, IEEE, or AES recommended
    • Flexible schedule and ability to work alternating weekends
    • Excellent communications, written and interpersonal skills
