Location New York City, NY - Midtown or Long Island, NY - End of Island
Summary Reports to VP of Network Technology Operations.  Provides engineering support and strategy recommendations for existing and new distribution technologies for the television network and ancillary delivery methodologies.   Works directly with internal departments, affiliates and distributors. 

This person will participate in industry activities and maintain vender and affiliate relationships to further the networks business and technology objectives and long term "Big Picture" delivery strategies.

This is a "Big Picture" job for a person who understands strategic technological infrastructure and the implementation and development of advanced technologies to facilitate diverse methodologies of advanced broadcast distribution systems. 

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for synthesizing emerging technologies, various distributors’ needs and strategies, together with network objectives and needs, thereby identifying implications and recommending appropriate courses of action.
  • Responsible for developing plans and overseeing implementation of distribution strategies with distributors (e.g., cable TV, DBS, HITS, broadband, etc.) to ensure timely deployment and continuity of service. Responsible for evaluating new distribution technologies to review and make recommendations on quality and security issues.
  • Responsible for representing network on industry committees and with trade organizations to stay abreast of developments, maintain network's high profile, and advocate Network's point-of-view.
  • Responsible for intra-company/inter-discipline projects which have technology issues and implications (e.g., International, New Business Development; interactive, PPV,OD, etc.) contributing technical expertise and recommending solutions to meet objectives.
  • Responsible for providing technical support to distributors as well as Network departments as needed.
  • Responsible for cultivating first-hand relationships with customers, vendors, and other industry constituents in order to stay abreast of developments and help maintain Network's leadership role in technology related fields. 
Skills Required
  • Electrical Engineering degree (required); MBA (preferred); Strong self starter and strategic thinker; attention to detail and deadline oriented performer a must.
  • Strong background in media distribution technology:  Cable, DBS, Broadband (networking) technologies including design, infrastructure, strategies.  Minimum 7 years industry background a must.
  • Strong background in digital transmission technologies such as MPEG compression, streaming media, satellite transmission and reception, conditional access (Digital Rights Management) and interactive television.
  • Working knowledge of broadcasting:  Origination, program integration.
  • Working knowledge of software application development as it pertains to interactive television, distribution technologies (such as headend and client systems).
